On Wednesday, October 21st, PHBA will host their annual Community Cabinet from 7-9 PM EST. This year the focus is on channeling knowledge and energy into action and advocacy. Leaders from Boston's neighborhoods will be invited to speak on a panel and then meet with small groups of students to help them understand the city's assets and issues and how both service and advocacy work together to push forward change. PHBA also hopes that community leaders will inspire folks to engage with community folks in deeper ways.
The evening will consist of small group discussions, a panel, and a reflection. DiDi will lead the Racial Justice & Prison/PoliceAbolition small group.
PBHA
The Phillips Brooks House Association strives for social justice. As a student-‐run organization, we draw upon the creative initiative of students and community members to foster collaboration that empowers individuals and communities. Through social service and social action, PBHA endeavors to meet community needs while advocating structural change. PBHA seeks to promote social awareness and community involvement at Harvard and beyond.
COMMUNITY CABINET HISTORY
Cabinet is the governing body of PBHA, and is made up of the program directors and officers of PBHA, all of whom are college students. Most cabinets focus on training directors on program-‐centric issues like volunteer recruitment, reflection, assessment, etc. About 17 years ago PBHA decided to dedicate one Cabinet to speakers from the communities in which we work, with the idea that community leaders are hugely important to the work that PBHA does; but students are often nervous to meet community leaders. The goal of Community Cabinet is to introduce students and community leaders to each other in a comfortable, collaborative space.
