DiDi Works For Black Moms

Didi is committed to working with and for Black moms. Being a mother herself and understanding the complex system of racial and especially medically racial bias against black women and girls, Didi is consistently working to provide support, housing, and advocacy for black moms across the us.

DiDi has raised over $2,000,000 to support Black moms since 2015, and is beginning a journey as a full-spectrum doula to be able to provide even more direct support for moms who need to be heard.

“In terms of maternal mortality rates by race, the CDC data shows that Black mothers’ mortality rate is highest, at 40.8 deaths per 100,000 live births. That’s more than double the rate for white mothers, which was 12.7 deaths per 100,000 live births.”

“Black women have an exponentially high rate of death during or immediately after pregnancy, including the postpartum period when compared to Hispanic and White women, regardless of education status or income level. This speaks to the presence of structural racism, or racism that is reinforced through the public policies and regulations of a society.”

“…this problem is more common than many people realize. And it is particularly bad for Black women. The CDC estimates that, in 2021, the maternal mortality rate among Black women was nearly 70 deaths for every 100,000 live births. That is 2.6 times the rate for white women, regardless of income or education.”

“it’s certainly scary that my outcome with my child giving birth three months ago could’ve been vastly different had I not been a huge advocate and not had the support of all of my community. Now that I am a full spectrum Doula, my intent is to train other Doula, and for us to Remember, Reclaim, and Restore.”
